Swimwear to Suit Your Shape

Be honest, when was the last time you bought a new swim suit? It’s one of those items in our wardrobe that we tend to think of as functional rather than stylish item. Yet if we gave a little thought to it, we might find a cossie that’s fun and flattering to wear.

1.  Hourglass figure:

If your shoulders and hips are the same width, and you have a small waist, you are truly lucky. Your gorgeous body is an hourglass shape, and you can pull off practically any style - especially if you’re petite! Try them all: one-piece, bikini, glitters, solid colour, patterns, or mix and match.

2. Pear-shaped:

This body type is defined by curvy hips and legs, with smaller shoulders. If this sounds like you, your weapon of choice is a two-piece swimsuit with a flashy top! It doesn’t have to be a flashy colour, but it should take the attention away from your hips, and up to your bust.
Always choose low-cut bottoms, as high-cut bottoms will only accentuate your hips. And forget one-piece swimsuits and swimsuits with horizontal stripes: the first will shorten your legs, and the second will make your thighs look bigger!

3. Boy-shaped:

This is where your shoulders and hips are the same width, but your waist is only very slightly defined. More like the letter H than the number 8.
You should look for a bathing suit that will accentuate your hips, as well as your femininity. To make your figure more voluptuous, opt for a two-piece in a triangle shape. This will stop your body looking rectangular.  And if you prefer a one-piece? No problem, just choose something with glamorous colours like red. You can even try patterns over the hips – just stay away from squares or rectangles, as these aren’t particularly flattering. And banish square necklines or shorts, as these are too masculine.

4. The upside-down triangle:

This body shape is characterised by wide shoulders and narrow hips. If you choose to go for a one-piece swimsuit, try a V-neck cleavage, as this will take the focus away from your shoulders and make them appear less dominant.
Those who prefer two-piece suits should opt for high-waist shorts with horizontal stripes. This will give the illusion of larger hips. Never choose a low-cut bottom, as this will only accentuate the narrowness of your hips!

Great magazine.  I have read nearly all the articles.  Lucky I read this article before going to buy my swimsuit.  Going to do my eye brows now.

I always find these articles on swimsuit types disappointing.  What about those of us with no bust/flat chested.  You could say pear shape but a bright top onnly accentuates you have nothing up top
