Young and Undone

Youthful exuburance defined the loose and casual styles at Dsquared, Vivienne Westwood Gold Label and Moschino Cheap and Chic which showcased fresh and energetic looks.

'Young, fresh energetic and upbeat,' that's what this look is about, according to Sam, who applied his signature 'done, then undone' technique to a range of styles, from funky up-dos, Egyptian-influenced head wraps and cute, sexy chignons. 

The vibrant, youthful spirit was the perfect complement to brightly-coloured collections, with an emphasis on fruity shades, tropical prints and clashing colours. At Moschino Cheap and Chic. Sam's messed-up buns were tied with crazy coloured scarves while at DSquared, what had been quite a tidy bow-shaped chignon, was ruffled up to make it light and carefree. For Vivienne Westwood Gold Label the reference was 'girls emerging from and Egyptian sarcophagus'. Sam's interpretation was a wrapped bouffant with a distressed texture and dried white clay in the hair, which added to the mummy-like effect.

Step-by-step

  1. 1. Step One:

  2. 2. Step Two:

    To create a texture and additional volume at the crown, backcomb the hair from a couple of inches away from the scalp, pushing the comb against the natural grain of the hair.

     

     

  3. 3. Step Three:

    Then, gather hair into a loose ponytail, secured using a no-snag elastic band, a few inches away from the head, so that the hair is 'baggy' and not tight to the head. 

  4. 4. Step Four:

    Twist the lengths of the hair into a bun and pin to secure. The overall effect should appear soft and light, and not tightly pulled.

  5. 5. Step Five:

    Accessorise the look using brightly coloured silk scarves, twisted then tied around the head like and Alice band, or wound around the bun, or woven in and out of the bun. 

  6. 6. Step Six:

    Complete the look by dishevelling slightly, pulling away loose wisps to give the effect of a carefree, soft flyway look.
