In Kate's style world, she finds it wise to choose a figure-fitting but not overtly tight evening dresses in a solid, bold colours, similar to the royal blue Issa designer dress she wore on the engagement announcement day. There is a fantastic, draped and fitted Leona Edmiston dress at $149 that totally encapsulates the Kate look.
Darker denim and vintage-type skinny jeans seem to be Kate’s choice and even though she is about to become Princess Catherine, she isn’t afraid of wearing this classic of wardrobe staples. Kate teams her jeans with a pair of knee-high flat boots and a fantastic, over-sized knit so well and we can ‘princess-up‘ our jeans by adding a silk pussy-bow shirt or a nipped-in jacket.
As far as skirts are concerned, a straighter, pencil style is the way to go, preferably just above the knee and verging on higher-waisted and always worn with a fitted jacket. It’s a perfect Kate-at-lunch-event look.
As far as accessories go, Kate opts for dark opaque tights, knee-high black boots, some drop pearl earrings, an oversized boho bag, with her signature shiny mane of locks.
When Kate wore a classic Burberry trench, the label's designer Christopher Bailey must have had a real pang of joy as his trench, whole the penultimate of trenches, also kicked off the trend for a million other designers who have included them in their collections.
But this whole fashion thing isn't new to Kate, as when she was Prince William’s girlfriend, way back at St Andrews University, the global interest had already started. And who could forget the dress she wore to her 25th birthday back in 2007 that was picked up for £40 at Topshop and then sold out the next day!
Kate's major style staples include fitted jackets, figure-hugging dresses, trench coats, skinny jeans (although she is known to wear flared styles from Hudson too); red suits, riding boots from Penelope Chilvers, white topaz drop earrings, fitted sweaters and anything from the British brand, Alice Temperley. Rumours still abound the label may be designing the wedding dress. But then so may Jasper Conran or Sarah Burton from Alexander McQueen or Bruce Oldfield. We'll soon see . . .
