How to Get the Perfect Red Lip

According to celebrity makeup artist Jackie Shawn, your skin tone is the best starting point. "First, decide whether you're warm or cool," says Shawn, "if the veins on the inside of your wrist are very blue looking, you're cool, if they're on the green side, you're warm." Shawn recommends trying blue-reds, often with berry or wine-related names if you're cool. If you're warm, Shawn suggests opting for reds with orangey undertones with names affiliated with flame, brick or chilli.

Now that you've figured out how to pick the right red for you, here's a step-by-step guide to getting the look just right:

Step-by-step

  1. 1. LINER

A lip liner will define your lip shape and help with a precise lip-color application. Trace the line at the edge of the lips with a creamy liner such as CoverGirl Outlast Smoothwear All-Day Lipliner. The silky-soft pencil glides on easily and smoothly to ensure flawless application without pulling or tugging. The smooth liner prevents lip color from feathering or bleeding. Try a shade such as Ruby or Berry; whichever best matches the lip color you want to use.Rouge Tip: Lip color looks best on a smooth surface. Before applying lip liner, gently exfoliate lips with a clean toothbrush to ensure a smooth application.

  2. 2. STAIN

A lipstain serves as a great, lightweight, stay-put base for bold color, plus fading lip color won’t be so obvious. Fill lips in with smooth strokes of a stain like CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain which defines your kisser with a pen-like precision applicator. Try Wild Berry Wink for a lightweight flush of color that lasts all day!

  3. 3. COLOUR

Next, apply lip color on top of the lip stain to minimize touch-ups throughout the day and enhance the stain color. With shine-boosting clear topcoat, CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor. The advanced formula provides coverage, color and shine for up to 16 hours in just two easy steps! Try Blossom Berry, Red Affair, or Sweet Burgundy. If you want to up the glam factor, top with a sheer, shiny gloss, such as CoverGirl ShineBlast Lipgloss. Light reflecting shimmer layered under a high-gloss finish gives you a great shine for a show-stopping look!

Comments

I will definitely try this.  I have never used Lipstain producs before but it mught help keep some colour on my lips as especially as I work in and operating theatre and the surgical masks quickly remove my lippy.
