The really smart fashion-pack have already looked to the recent fashion shows from Paris and Milan and incorporated those new trends into their everyday wardrobes. But for those who really don't have the time, or the inclination for such passion, here are the top ten trends you need to know . . .
Leather
This fave of all faves is everywhere this autumn. Apart from the practicality of leather (nothing but a good wipe-down can't fix!) you just have to have a leather skirt or some pants this season. Whether a pencil skirt or tailored trousers or tight jeans, go the hide. And don't forget the stretch factor, so go for a smaller size than you normally would.
Lace
Well, it never seems to go away but this season it has really made its presence know. Whether in a simple, long sleeve black dress (a Collette Dinnigan delicacy says it all but there are lots of less expensive alternatives around) or a top worn under a leather or tux jacket, just a hint of lace will make you feel part of the Style A-team.
Camel
It is a hue once thought of as being a tad mumsy and old-school, but now, no way! It is actually one of the best neutrals and classics around and whether you indulge in a camel skirt or even trench coat (making you look very Kate Middleton) just one dose of camel will have you right on trend.
Bold, rounded shoulders
Sure, the 80s, big shoulder thing re-emerged when French house Balmain bought them back a few years ago but they still aren't ready to die down . . yet. For autumn the man-style jacket look is still exaggerated but rounded and not as 'pointy'. Wear this trend with extreme caution.
Loose-knit sweaters
Super soft loose knits in cotton, wool and cashmere are an absolute essential. Shapes go from V, round and turtle necks in longer style knits while colour-wise, you can't go wrong with neutrals of cream, black and nav and 'pop' tones of bright hues like orange, purple and green.
Animal print
Whether in a short trench coat, a sexy dress, tight pants, an accessory or sheer scarf, animal prints from zebra to leopard and tiger are the go. Yes, it a loud vibe that can look absolutely extra-ordinary, or completely off-mark if not worn well, proceed with taste. And don't mix your animal with too many brights. Wear it with a neutral like cream, camel or black.
Red
Every few seasons red re-emerges as a biggie and this season it is having a big turn. If you're not going the whole red way in a figure-hugging dress or suit (which can look a bit over-the-top) just a hint or rouge will do. So try a red lip, some killer high heels, handbag or simple, high-waisted skirt.
Big jewellery
Extremely big, statement pieces are everywhere whether in necklaces, bracelets and earrings and big coloured stones work beautifully either on drop earrings or big pendants and brooches. The **** ring is still big news too and the great thing is you can pick up great looking inexpensive ones from somewhere like Diva.
Boots
Whether an ankle bootie or an over-the knee style, your autumn wardrobe isn't complete without , undoubtedly, the boots of the season. Worn with a pair of leggings or skinny jeans, the are still working so well worn with an oversized sweater, a fitted jacket or a leather biker jacket.
Big handbags
Huge, handbags are still the go . . .and it isn't just because we can fit out entire lives into them, it's just that have established themselves as one of the most visible fashion accessories over the last decade. Go wild with colour this season with a bright orange or purple bag that you can sling over your shoulder from morning 'til night.
