Season Style from the Experts

Melissa Hoyer caught up with two of Australia's leading hair experts who told her about the importance of new season style and most importantly, hair care.

Joey Scandizzo, from the Rokk Ebony salon talks through the latest styling trends from the Wella Salon Professionals range.

"I am all about fearless hair fashion and am particularly into big, beautiful and bouncy hair at the moment. It is often hard to create that voluminous look yourself but I have been using a new product called Volupt which, I found, give you the shine and the body and it just makes the hair look really expensive.

Potion 9 is another great product that is a leave-in treatment that seriously protects and treats hair and is particularly good to use over summer when hair is really up against the elements.

In Melbourne (Joey is a Melbourne based stylist) everyone seems to be moving away from the whole ballyage, dried out and beachy look and looking for more polished looks and tones. Volume is well and truly back and people want to make their hair look sleek and expensive. They really want to feel sexy and beautiful and not dried out!

Nowadays a good hair appointment begins with a consultation and it isn't about whatever shampoo that happens to be on the bench. We now have so many shampoos to suit every kind of hair. As far as who my favourite celebs are when it comes to having some pretty fierce and fashionable hair choices, I would say Kate Moss and Ruby Rose are the two women I look to. Both just get it right every time, Kate with an enduring and relentless way of looking totally on-trend and Ruby because she isn't afraid to try out new colours and styles."

Frank Apostolopoulos from the Biba salon takes about the latest hair care trends and the importance of treatments for the hair from the Wella System Professionals range.

"Tailored-made hair care is what we are really going toward now as hair care is so important, well before we start colouring and cutting. We're all using straightening irons and tongs so much, so we have to be so careful we look after the hair. Hairdressers now are working like chemists where we can really advise our clients as to what will be the perfect shampoo, conditioner or treatment to make the most of whatever type of hair you have.

I usually get my inspiration from the catwalk and with a strong short hair cut, of which we are seeing quite a few around, you don't need a whole lot of colours. In fact, you really need an amazing shine and good hair care.

I am all about adding shine to the hair and if there is one woman or epitomises what good style and great hair cut is it would have to be Cate Blanchett. She is incredibly stylish and always looks fantastic and I love her shorter style at the moment. So incredibly chic and always hits the right style buttons.
